Default 2010 my year for fundraising, but how?

Just before 2010 and just after Christmas, I decided that 2010 would be the year that I would do something worthwhile, namely raise money for charity.
I have around about half dozen good ideas for events that would also be good fundraisers, some on an individual basis others on a collective basis. All the events involve members of the public in an interactive role. My fear is that these ideas - which I have had for some time - will remain just so, and this time next year I will be thinking about what I COULD have done, unless I do somehing about it this year!
How is it best to organise these events, set up an events business and run it full time, or just try and organise the odd single event and see how it goes?

Have you approached a charity about your ideas? Many of the larger charities will having dedicated events and/or fundraising teams who can help you make your ideas a reality.

If you're able to provide a bit more info I'm sure some of the professional fundraising and events people on TSF will be able to offer their advice.

No i haven't appraoched any charities about any of my ideas, yet.
One of the reasonong behind my ideas - that word again, but at the moment they are just ideas - was to enable individuals to take part in a large event, but raise money for there own charity. Not all of the ideas follow this theme, a couple will aim to raise money for one charity, however my main kind of reasoning was to provide 'interactive donating'. For example, people tend to put a pound or two into a collecting tin, but what if you could be involved in a record attempt, or a mass participation event for that same pound or two. Not everyone wants to do that I know. just this morning I came up with another idea - yeah I'm full of them, which is why I decided that 2010 was going to be the year I did something about them - however I did think that the best way for me to carry out these ideas (events) was to put together some form of business to do that. We will have to see.

Hi Andrew,

I just came across your post. I hope you still have aspirations and plans to organise events. It's a great thing you want to do!

I'm a Founding Member of the Entrepreneurial Club; a non-profit community interest company. I'd like to offer any support if you welcome it. We help people build and develop businesses that are founded on trust-filled relationships; people with shared values and aspirations, so that things can get done effectively and at low cost, rather than getting caught up in bureaucracy and red tape!

We are actually organising a national event ourselves, so we know a few things about fundraising! I really hope this is something you still want to do, and if you think we could help, feel free to get in touch!

Warmest Regards

Sukh
