Default are pubs a hot-bed for charity formation?

So - pubs are now closing at a rate of one every 3 hours!
http://blog.taragana.com/pr/pub-clos...-answer-12088/

I also recently worked out that a new charity is registered every 3 hours.

Co-incidence? or a sign that either ex-drinkers are looking for new ways to occupy their time, OR that pubs are a hot-bed for charity creation?

It appears that the office of the Third Sector are looking to bring the community in to deal with the issue via community ownership with £3.3m support programme administered by the Plunkett Foundation.

News story here. Info found on the Asset Transfer Unit's Twitter page.

I reckon there are some great opportunities for using pubs as the base for developing community social enterprises. They are a great community resource.

For example, I've always wanted to play with the idea of a youth pub. Non Alcoholic. Nut the base for all sorts of youth activity. Bands. Artists. Networking. Support. Guidance. All in a place that would appeal to YP.

Anyone know of one working?

Graham
