Charities Act 2006 Update: Exempt Charity Registrations
21nd June 2010
1.30-4.30pm
ICSA Charity Secretaries Group is pleased to invite you to an afternoon meeting providing an update of the implementation of the Charities Act 2006 (the Act) specifically aimed at exempt charities.
The Act changes the way that exempt charities are regulated in England and Wales with an overarching aim to create a single registration (this will not apply to charitable incorporated organisations or exempt charities that already have a principal regulator). By introducing a single registration scheme the Act aimed to reduce confusion and anomalies within the system and promote adherence to charity law with regard to public accountability and reporting.
Since 2006 there have been a number of developments and consultations that have impacted on the original timetable for the registration of some exempt charities, not least the recent election, and it is not inconceivable that further changes may occur. This meeting will provide information as to the role of ‘principal regulators’ along with an update as to the timeframe and requirements the Charity Commission will implement for the registration of exempt charities without a principal regulator. We will also hear from an exempt charity currently looking to make the most in the change of law to improve their governance framework.
